When I was much younger, this was my favorite Christmas carol ... well, apart from "We Three Kings" and "Good King Wences.....wareva" - *growing up was fun mehn* - Christmas in party-cooler LOL
anyways, we had this annual ritual in my neighborhood; there were no walls, unlike what we have now, so we kids *community kids* used to gather everyday to learn Carols, or dance steps, or our parts in a 'play', or anything we were taught by the grown ups - then perfect our acts for the Big Day; the Community Christmas Party ... WOW!
then a few days to the Christmas Party, we'd go round the Community singing carols just to raise funds and other goodies for our upcoming party...
a few residents dint open their homes to us though *sour all year round* their loss
but those who welcomed us were entertained - our duration in each house was determined largely by what they entertained us with - *robb my back, I rob yours* exchange is No ROBbery.
I love this song in particular ... it was our favorite as we went round the neighborhood annually (I must have done this for close to 10 years...I was born in that community; most of us were)
Here we come a'wassailing
Among the leaves so green,
Here we come a wand'ring,
So fair to be seen.
Love and joy come to you,
And to your wassail too,
And God bless you and send you a happy new year,
And God send you a happy new year.
We are not daily beggars
Who beg from door to door,
But we are neighbor's children
Whom you have seen before.
We have a little purse
Made of ratching leather skin.
We want some of your small change
To line it well within.
God bless the Master of this house,
Likewise the Mistress too.
And all the little children
That round the table go.
Christmas is the Best Season of the Year! and Christ is the reason for the season ...
